Fujitsu Launches Slick P8000 Ultra portable PC

Fujitsu’s the new Life Book P8000 series is probably sexiest to date. It’s got a high-gloss “diamond black” finish that sparkles a little but not too much.

A thinner lid with LED backlighting plus embedded webcam conceals the fact that the new model’s got a 12″ screen rather than the 10.4″ of its predecessor.

The weight even went down, to just under 3 lbs., including both (1.8″?) hard drive and optical drive. Fujitsu reports that it gets 6.5 hours of battery life running Vista. The Life Book P8010 will cost around $1,700 when it ships the first week in February.

The P8000’s weight goes down to about 2.4 pounds. The dimensions grow slightly, too, to 11.2- by 8.3- by 1.4-inches.

According to Fujitsu’s Paul Moore, senior director of mobile product marketing, the extra length and height accommodates the switch from a 10.4-inch screen to a 12.1-inch widescreen display, while the extra depth is to accommodate the battery and optical drive.

A bit anorexic at less than 3 lbs, it includes both (1.8″) hard drive and optical drive. According to the company, Life Book P8000 gets 6.5 hours of battery life running Vista.
